DrayTek advanced WiFi network management mechanism demo by Vigor2920n

1. Bandwidth Control (stop “bandwidth hogs” from using more bandwidth than other guests)

DrayTek Vigor2920n’s Multiple SSID function can not only distinguish guest (extranet)/employess (intranet) and different workgroups such as Finance, Sales or R&D Dept but also be capable to allocate different bandwidth to each SSID by easy-to-use Rate Control setting. For example, this company applies Internet connection with 10Mpbs for downstream and 2Mpbs for upstream. They give higher bandwidth to Sales (SSID2) and R&D (SSID3) Dept to fulfill their demand of fast response to customers or data exchange for project development. Finance Dept (SSID1) and Meeting room for guest (SSID4) normally only need internal e-mail exchange or surfing; therefore, they would be satifsy with lower given bandwidth.
 
 
2. Security (prevent one user from seeing other guests’ computers or “eavesdropping”)

Administrators have variety of choices of authentication methods to enhance wireless security as adopting Vigor2920n. For instance, they can choose WPA encryption inclduing WPA/Preshared Key, WPA2/Preshared key and WPA+WPA2/Preshared key or WEP encryption including 64 bit and 128 bit key structure for each SSID. In addition, SSID can be hided only by check Hide SSID box to prevent wireless sniffing. Furthermore, they can do Access control by MAC Addressing Filter to restric network access right only for wireless client with the valid MAC address to access wireless network. At last but not least, Vigor2920n can be bundled with RADIUS server to do 802.1X Authentication.
 
 
3. Content Management (disallow porn sites, facebook, peer to peer networks, movie sites, music sites, etc. by blocking access to those sites by type or specific name)

With Vigor2920n’s comprehensive Content Security Management function, we can further ensure the usage of allocated bandwith dedicated with their assigned jobs. For example, IM/P2P filter profile can not only block the usage of instant message and peer-to-peer applications but also allow administrator to grant level of usage of certain IM applications. For example, you can allow your Finance Dept to login MSN and only use message function to keep in touch with major stockholders. Nevertheless, they are not capable to transfer files, play game, watch video, do talk or others via MSN. URL content filter profile, you may not allow employees to visit eBay for online shopping nor facebook through web browsing. You can create profiles to disallow url containing eBay and facebook to prevent inappropriate surfing. Web Content Filter profile (WCF) have pre-grouped many web contents to ease setting to limit them not to browse certain websites by selecting pre-defined contents in WCF profile, operated by Commtouch GlobalView, required optional license cost. They are now unable to access website with contents listed in Child Protection, Leisure and Other sections or do job search.
